Think your cooking deserves a bigger stage? Lotus’s Chef Challenge is returning for 2026, inviting home cooks, culinary students, aspiring talents and professional chefs from across Malaysia to put their skills to the test.

Running from 31 October to 1 November 2026 at Lotus’s Ampang, this year’s competition carries the theme “Dari Dapur Ke Pentas”, with top contestants getting the opportunity to represent Malaysia at regional and national culinary competitions in 2027.
The stakes are particularly high after last year’s Professional Category champions, Chef Muhammad Syafiq Syahmi bin Saidon, Chef Leo Wong and Chef Yuventhiran Pillai, went on to compete at the Thailand Ultimate Chef Challenge 2026 in Bangkok. The trio secured Malaysia’s first Gold Award in the Team Category and were crowned Overall Team Champion against more than 400 chefs from across Asia.
Two Categories, One Bigger Stage
This year’s competition is split into two categories. The Professional category is open to established chefs aged 25 to 40, while the Young Chef category welcomes home cooks, students and aspiring chefs aged 18 to 30.
Contestants will have to prepare and plate their dishes against the clock while being judged on creativity, technique, presentation and the story behind their creations. Different ingredients and themes will be introduced as participants progress through each round.
Both categories offer RM3,000 in Lotus’s cash vouchers for the Grand Prize winner, followed by RM2,000 for first runner-up and RM1,000 for second runner-up.
More importantly, the top three Professional finalists will advance to the Thailand Ultimate Chef Challenge 2027, while the top three Young Chef finalists will head to Culinaire Malaysia 2027.
The competition is endorsed by the Professional Culinaire Association Malaysia and World Chefs Association, with support from TAEM Academy. Chef KK Yau will also return as Head Coach to mentor the team heading to Thailand in 2027.
Registration for the Lotus’s Chef Challenge 2026 is now open nationwide and closes on 30 September 2026. The competition itself takes place on 31 October and 1 November at Lotus’s Ampang.
Those ready to take their cooking from the kitchen to the competition stage can find the full eligibility requirements and registration details on the official Lotus’s Chef Challenge 2026 website
