Canon has introduced the EOS R8 Mark II, a new 24.2-megapixel full-frame mirrorless camera aimed at photographers and content creators looking for a compact body without giving up more advanced EOS R features.

The successor to the EOS R8 weighs approximately 546g and measures 131.4 x 90.0 x 79.7mm, making it Canon’s smallest and lightest full-frame mirrorless camera equipped with In-Body Image Stabilisation (IBIS). Its redesigned body also gains a multi-controller joystick for easier autofocus control, a feature typically found on Canon’s higher-end cameras.
Faster Shooting and New Creative Tools
The EOS R8 Mark II pairs its full-frame sensor with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II and can shoot continuously at up to 40fps using the electronic shutter. Pre-Continuous Shooting helps capture moments before the shutter is fully pressed, while Register People Priority can be used to prioritise and track specific people in crowded scenes.

Its built-in 5-axis IBIS can also work together with compatible stabilised RF lenses through Coordinated Control IS, delivering up to 7.5 stops of stabilisation at the centre of the frame.
Canon is also introducing several in-camera creative options, including new NegativeFilmtone and PositiveFilmtone colour filters. Additional Blue, Black & Orange, Pink and Green colour modes are available for Handheld Night Scene Mode, while Creative AUTO makes its first appearance on a full-frame EOS camera.
Built With Video Creators in Mind
For video, the EOS R8 Mark II supports 6K-oversampled 4K 60p recording, Full HD at up to 180p and Canon Log 3. It also inherits Custom Picture functionality from Canon’s Cinema EOS lineup, including support for custom LUTs and more advanced image adjustments.
Four wired and wireless livestreaming options are available, including multi-angle streaming through the Live Switcher Mobile app. Canon has also expanded its VR capabilities with support for full-frame and APS-C VR lenses, alongside a new VR Clear Mode designed to improve clarity when content is viewed through VR headsets.
Three accessories were announced alongside the camera: the Extension Grip EG-E2, Tripod Grip HG-1000TBR with Bluetooth Remote Controller BR-E2, and an updated Speedlite EL-5 (Ver. 2) with an increased wireless communication range of around 50 metres.
Canon Malaysia has yet to announce local pricing and availability for the EOS R8 Mark II.
