Volvo Car Malaysia has officially launched the updated Volvo EX90, bringing an 800-volt electrical architecture, more powerful computing hardware and faster charging to its fully electric seven-seater flagship SUV.

Locally assembled in Shah Alam, the EX90 is priced from RM428,888 without insurance and is now available for viewing at authorised Volvo dealerships nationwide. The first 100 units booked will receive an RM25,000 cash rebate and a Volvo Wallbox worth RM3,990.

680hp and Up to 617km of Range

One of the biggest changes is the move to an 800V architecture, allowing the EX90 to support DC fast charging at up to 350kW. Volvo claims a 10 to 80% charge takes around 22 minutes.

Its 106kWh battery provides up to 617km of WLTP range, while the Twin Motor all-wheel-drive system produces 680hp and 870Nm of torque. Despite being a large seven-seater SUV, the EX90 can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.2 seconds.

The new electrical architecture also reduces heat generation and overall weight while requiring less copper compared to the previous system.

Computing power has also been upgraded with an NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin-based core computer, which handles functions ranging from active safety and vehicle sensors to battery management. Volvo’s Superset technology stack allows the vehicle to receive regular over-the-air updates, including improvements to infotainment, safety and driving performance.

Inside, the EX90 features a 14.5-inch centre display, nine-inch driver display and head-up display, alongside built-in Google services including Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play. A Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity Audio System is also standard.

Safety Remains a Major Focus

Volvo’s Safe Space Technology uses a combination of radars, sensors and ultrasonic sensors to continuously monitor the vehicle’s surroundings.

Inside, two infrared sensors form part of the Driver Understanding System, which can detect signs of distraction or impairment and intervene when necessary. Cabin radars can also detect extremely small movements, including breathing, to help prevent occupants from accidentally being left inside the vehicle.

The EX90 also comes with Volvo’s latest driver assistance technologies, including next-generation Pilot Assist and Park Pilot Assist.

The cabin continues Volvo’s Scandinavian design approach with an electrochromic panoramic roof, ventilated Nappa leather and natural wood trim. Buyers can choose between Charcoal Nappa leather with Light Ash décor or Cardamom Nappa leather with Brown Ash.

Five exterior colours are available: Onyx Black, Sand Dune, Crystal White, Vapour Grey and Mulberry Red.

The evolved Volvo EX90 is now open for bookings in Malaysia from RM428,888, with the RM25,000 rebate and complimentary wallbox limited to the first 100 bookings.

Volvo has also announced updates for the MY27 ES90, including new Mulberry and Aurora Silver exterior colours, a Cardamom interior option, new 21-inch wheels and wireless Android Auto compatibility. Early ES90 bookings are eligible for cash rebates of up to RM17,600, with bookings beginning in September 2026.
