JAECOO has officially entered the fully electric market in Malaysia with the launch of the JAECOO J5 EV, a compact electric SUV priced at RM118,800.
Locally assembled in Shah Alam, the J5 EV combines a claimed 461km NEDC driving range with plenty of everyday practicality and a few lifestyle-focused features — including Pet Mode, Camping Mode and the ability to power external devices.
An EV Designed Around Everyday Life

The J5 EV keeps things relatively clean and minimalist on the outside, with an Active Grille Shutter and 18-inch aerodynamic wheels helping improve efficiency.
Despite being positioned as a B-segment SUV, there’s plenty of usable space inside. A 1.45-metre panoramic glass roof opens up the cabin, while storage includes a 35-litre front trunk and 480-litre rear boot. Fold the rear seats down and cargo capacity increases to 1,284 litres.
For Malaysian roads, there’s also 174mm of ground clearance and a claimed 450mm wading depth, while a 540-degree HD Surround View system helps with parking and manoeuvring in tighter spaces.
461km Range and 7.7-Second 0-100km/h
Power comes from a single electric motor producing 155kW and 288Nm of torque, enough to take the J5 EV from 0-100km/h in 7.7 seconds.
Its 58.9kWh CATL-supplied LFP battery delivers up to 461km of range based on the NEDC testing cycle.
For home charging, the J5 EV supports up to 11kW AC charging, with a 10-100% charge taking approximately seven hours.
JAECOO has also equipped the SUV with 19 Level 2+ ADAS features, covering familiar systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Autonomous Emergency Braking and Rear Cross-Traffic Braking.
Pet Mode, Camping Mode and V2L

Beyond commuting, JAECOO is leaning heavily into the J5 EV’s lifestyle credentials.
Pet Mode is designed around travelling with furry companions, while Camping Mode caters to those spending more time outdoors. There’s also 3.3kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing the car’s battery to power compatible appliances and electrical equipment.
That could come in handy for everything from camping equipment to a more elaborate outdoor setup — particularly when paired with the dedicated V2L connector offered with the car.
Locally Assembled in Malaysia
The J5 EV is also significant for JAECOO beyond being its first fully electric model here.
It is locally assembled under the CKD programme at Chery Corporate Malaysia’s Shah Alam facility, marking OMODA & JAECOO Malaysia’s entry into local New Energy Vehicle production.
Owners will be supported by the brand’s network of 56 showrooms and 53 service centres nationwide.
Warranty coverage consists of seven years or 150,000km for the vehicle, alongside a longer 10-year or 200,000km warranty for the high-voltage battery.
JAECOO J5 EV Malaysia Price and Launch Package

The JAECOO J5 EV is priced at RM118,800 on-the-road without insurance and is offered in a single variant. Buyers can choose between Alpine Green, Fjord Grey and Carbon Crystal Black, with the first customer deliveries expected to begin by 31 October 2026.
JAECOO is sweetening the deal for its first 1,000 deliveries with a launch package worth RM10,000, including one year of free insurance, three years of data connectivity, a 7kW JAECOO home charger, V2L connector and a selection of lifestyle accessories including a subwoofer, karaoke set and torch light.
Early customers will also receive one year of unlimited charging credits on the JomCharge network, which currently covers more than 1,353 charging stations nationwide.
At RM118,800, the J5 EV gives JAECOO a relatively accessible starting point for its electric ambitions in Malaysia, while its large boot, long warranty and lifestyle features give buyers a little more than just another EV for the daily commute.
