Japanese donut sensation I’m donut? is officially making its Southeast Asian debut, with Malaysia chosen as the home of its first store in the region.
The popular Japanese brand will open at The Exchange TRX in Kuala Lumpur on 12 September 2026, bringing its signature nama donuts to Malaysian fans for the first time.
What Makes I’m donut? Different?

Founded by chef-owner Ryota Hirako, I’m donut? first opened in Japan in 2022 and has since gained a following for its distinctive take on the classic donut.
Its signature nama donuts are made using an original brioche dough blended with pumpkin, resulting in a crisp exterior and an exceptionally soft, airy centre that almost melts in the mouth. In fact, that unusual texture inspired the playful question behind the brand’s name: “Am I really a donut?”
Each donut is also shaped and fried by hand, with components such as its creams prepared in-house wherever possible.

Malaysians will be able to try several of the brand’s popular creations, including the signature I’m donut? Original, the sugar-glazed Nama French Cruller, and Pistachio Cream, filled with pistachio paste and fresh cream.
Other options include Cacao, finished with cacao nibs, and Custard, featuring a generous filling of homemade custard.
Opening at The Exchange TRX This September
The Kuala Lumpur outlet marks a significant expansion for I’m donut?, becoming its first location in Southeast Asia and giving Malaysian foodies a chance to experience the Japanese nama donut trend closer to home.
I’m donut? Malaysia officially opens on 12 September 2026, from 10am to 10pm, at GS.05.0, The Exchange TRX, Kuala Lumpur.
So, if Japan’s famously soft and fluffy nama donuts have been sitting on your food bucket list, you’ll soon be able to try them without booking a flight to Japan.
