Travellers looking to combine an active holiday with sightseeing can look forward to the return of the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon, taking place on 11 October 2026.
Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), the annual event gives participants the opportunity to cycle through some of Hong Kong’s most recognisable landmarks, including its iconic bridges, tunnels and waterfront districts. Registration opens at 10am on 20 August, with more than 6,000 cyclists from around the world expected to take part.
Two scenic routes to choose from
This year’s Cyclothon starts from the West Kowloon Cultural District, with participants able to choose between two non-competitive rides.
The 56km route features a newly enhanced course designed to showcase more of Hong Kong’s cityscape, while the 32km route offers a shorter option suitable for recreational riders.
Both routes pass through some of the city’s best-known landmarks, offering sweeping views of Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong’s skyline and several vibrant neighbourhoods along the way.
More than just a cycling event
The celebrations extend beyond the ride itself with the Cyclothon Carnival, also held at the West Kowloon Cultural District.
Open throughout the day, the carnival will feature sports activities, live entertainment, family-friendly attractions and a variety of food offerings, providing something for both participants and spectators.
A chance to experience Hong Kong in autumn
The event also coincides with one of the best times of year to visit Hong Kong, when cooler temperatures make outdoor exploration more comfortable.
Beyond the city centre, visitors can discover hiking trails such as Dragon’s Back, The Victoria Peak Walk and sections of the MacLehose Trail, explore the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark, or enjoy water-based activities at GO PARK Sai Sha (Aqua). Together, these attractions highlight Hong Kong’s unique mix of urban experiences and natural landscapes.
Registration for the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon 2026 opens on 20 August, with the event taking place on 11 October.
