Today’s launch of Bukit Jalil Tsutaya Books at Pavilion Bukit Jalil marks the first store in Southeast Asia for Japan’s largest bookstore chain. Spanning 31,000 sq. ft, this single-storey bookstore is home to over 240,000 specially curated books, stationery and decorative goods.
Catering to the young family market in the area, Bukit Jalil Tsutaya Books encapsulates an enviable children’s section – carrying over 20,000 children’s books in English, Simplified Chinese, Bahasa Melayu and Japanese.
Further catering to the community is the bookstore’s cafe – modelled after the popular and common ‘share lounge’ in Japan, where guests can pull up a chair to do work while sipping on freshly brewed coffee, Kyoto matcha and artisanal desserts like their signature Dorayaki and Fruit Parfait.
A space of productivity and ingenuity that seats around 90 guests, as well as a place to escape the stresses of the real world and immerse in a good book.
Sharing his thoughts at the event, Mr Hideyuki Uemoto, CEO of Tsutaya Books Malaysia Sdn Bhd said, “For over 39 years, our mission is to promote reading, writing, and cultural awareness as tools to improve self-esteem, self-love, and ultimately our communities, so launching of Bukit Jalil Tsutaya Books is a dream come true for us. Today marks a key milestone in our journey to spread our wings in ASEAN countries and it’s the best chance for us to establish a direct relationship with Malaysian customers and build loyalty for our brand in this important market.”
