Chairman of the South African Medical Association, Dr Angelique Coetzee recently said that she saw her patients infected with this Omicron variant had shown very different symptoms to the Delta variant.
Dr Coetzee, who was also one of the first to suspect the Omicron variant, said that seven of his patients showed different symptoms but they seemed to be similar to the symptoms of normal viral illness.
The doctor told that his patients only experienced symptoms of extreme fatigue, moderate muscle aches, sore throat and tuberculosis.
Unlike previous variants, this variant does not cause the patient to lose the sense of smell or taste.
Compared to Delta, the symptoms for this variant are very mild with no patients requiring surgery due to this infection. ”
Dr Coetzee added that most patients with this Omicron variant only receive treatment at home.
However, the expert also expressed his concern about this variant for the elderly and people who have not yet received the vaccine.
If they are not vaccinated, we will see many people who will suffer severe illness due to this disease. ”
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) said that internal reports on new infections experienced by university students showed only mild symptoms. Even so, the severity of this variant could not be confirmed until a few days or weeks from now.
