If you are the recipients of the AstraZeneca and Sinovac vaccines, then this news is important.
The Drug Control Authority (DCA) decided yesterday to provide conditional permission for the use of AstraZeneca and CoronaVac vaccinations as a COVID 19 booster dosage to anyone aged 18 and up.
Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Director-General of Health, stated AstraZeneca patients would receive the same type of vaccination (homologous) and it will be administered 6 months after the second dosage of the vaccine.
The booster dosage for CoronaVac (Sinovac) will be administered 3 to 6 months following the second treatment.
The administration of booster doses for these two vaccination products to specified target groups will be documented by the COVID 19 Booster Immunization Agency (CITF-B) and will be updated on a regular basis, according to Dr Noor Hisham.
He went on to say that the meeting also approved conditional registration for the ‘AstraZeneca Solution for Injection’ vaccine for the third producer, SK Bioscience Co. Ltd. of South Korea, where the registration holder for this vaccine is AstraZeneca Sdn Bhd.
Previously, DCA approved conditional registration for the first manufacturer, AstraZeneca Nijmegen B.V Netherlands, and the second producer, Siam Bioscience Co, Ltd Thailand.
