When we think about theme parks, we immediately think of intriguing and popular theme parks like Disneyland or Universal Studios. We also have several amazing theme parks in Malaysia, such as Skytropolis in Genting Highlands and Sunway Lagoon.

However, recently there’s been a rumour on an amusement park in Saudi Arabia that is being planned for development through the Public Investment Fund’s Twitter feed. According to reports, this particular project has part of their plan for the years 2021 to 2025.

To make things more amusing, the amusement park will be built atop an oil rig. Yes, smack dab in the middle of the sea!

It is called ‘The Rig” and is designed as a network of interconnecting platforms covering an area of 150,000 square metres, over which guests would be transported via 50 marina ships.

It is reported thatthat ‘The Rig’ will have three types of hotels, 11 world-class restaurants, helipads, and a range of exciting and extreme activities such as roller coasters, ferris wheels, go-carts, bungee jumping, and water slides. Doesn’t it already sound like an adrenaline rush?

It is understood that PIF would not reveal the location of ‘The Rig,’ but insiders say that there a big number of oil rigs in Saudi Arabia cluster near the east coast city of Dammam so that could be it. On top of that, they have yet to confirm the theme park’s launch date as well.

An amusement park in the middle of the sea, according to the average Reddit user, seems to be a bad idea. Some have even compared this notion to the first chapter of a horror book. What are your thoughts?
