What is the one thing all Malaysians love to unite around and share? Our food. Batik Boutique’s latest collection was inspired by the aroma of steamed rice infused with coconut milk and pandan leaves, the spicy smack of sambal tumis, the crunch of peanuts, the texture of fried anchovies, the freshness of thinly sliced cucumbers, and of course, a shiny boiled egg that ties all these flavours into a harmonious balance. Yes, we are talking about the loved of all – Nasi Lemak. A plate of rice with spicy sambal unites us all – fitting as Malaysia Day is just around the corner.
Batik Boutique introduces a new Nasi Lemak Collection as a batik tribute to “foodies” everywhere. And of course, we had to include “lah” which is synonymous with our Malaysian culture, incorporated in the homewares.
Batik Boutique’s classic reversible placemats in black and neutral tones are a modern monochromatic addition to any table setting. Each piece is hand-printed on 100% cotton by skilled artisans in Malaysia. Placemats are sold in sets of two or as a homeware gift set including four placemats and four coasters.
The Nasi Lemak Collection also includes men’s shirts, reusable face masks, boxers, DIY Batik painting kits and tote bags. The men’s shirt comes in two colourways; green and grey. This shirt is made using 100% cotton, features a chest pocket, and is cut in a straight fit design. Not into wearing your food as a shirt? Opt for our newest Batik Boutique bark boxers in the same print in black.
Batik Boutique’s best-selling 3 layer masks now come in the new Nasi Lemak print in black, grey and green. Each mask has a breathable fit, three layers with side slits, this enables the wearer to add a disposable filter as a fourth layer and are packaged in a biodegradable, reusable pouch made from 100% corn starch.
To finish off this collection Batik Boutique also updated their Nasi Lemak tote in a new colourway; a vivid green of a banana leaf used to bungkus our Nasi Lemak. The bag is hand-printed on calico fabric and Batik Boutique’s logo is also a silkscreen printed on the inside for a nice finishing touch. It is available in a gift set as well that is ready for gifting to send to your friends or co-workers.
Whether it’s a nasi lemak bungkus on your dining table or a new nasi lemak batik shirt, let’s celebrate our national dish and the people that it unites.
