Nando’s intended for the recipients to believe that an internal e-mail had been leaked when, in fact, it was a teaser for their new PERi-PERi Chicken Chop, which is constructed completely of chicken thighs.
Though Nando’s did not respond directly to the email, they did tweet “I guess the juicy information has leaked… “To the thigh lovers we’ve let down previously, you know how we truly sayang you right?” along with a picture that read: “Hope everyone enjoyed a little of detective work with our cheeky (made-up) customer complaints.”
Years of gathering data on customer requests indicating their craving for chicken thigh led to the notion of revealing their new menu item in this manner. It’s the most popular chicken component for their main menu category, Chicken On-The-Bone, which includes flame-grilled PERi-PERi 14, 12, and entire chicken.
