M’sians launched a white flag campaign, signaling the need to help each other out during MCO

“Raise the white flag if you need help, there is no need to be ashamed.”

This was said in a recent social media campaign that urged the people to send signals publicly if they needed assistance, particularly in terms of critical commodities during the Full Movement Control Order’s implementation phase (FMCO).

The campaign drew a large number of responses from netizens, who, on average, gave moral support and financial aid to people whose earnings had been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The widely shared poster encourages the rakyat to:

– Raise a white flag outside their homes if they require help, such as food and other essential items
– Do not take any actions that will hurt yourself or your loved ones
– Avoid stress
– Don’t need to plead and feel embarrassed
– Simply put up a white cloth, and hopefully, someone will come to your aid

“It took us countless of suicides to start #BenderaPutih. I’m sorry we’re late. I’m sorry it took so many lives for us to realize the government never gives a shit about us. #KerajaaanGagal The rakyats have heard your pleas. Reach out to us. We are here for you,” said a Twitter user, Kael.

Another Twitter user, Adena called on those who are staying in Subang Jaya and are struggling to feed their cats or dogs to reach out to her. She will do her best to send some pet food.

On top of that, it’s best to clarify that this white flag campaign is a symbol of the nation suffering and them helping each other out during the time of need. Making it clear, that this is not associated with any political parties.

Jisnukvitran Vejayaindren tweeted, “#BenderaPutihWaving white flag doesn’t mean you are accepting defeat or failing miserably. You’re just ‘calling for back up’. We are here for you,” and we stand by with that as well.

FMCO came into effect on June 1 for two weeks and is now extended with no definite date.

Last Sunday, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the FMCO would be continued until the daily infection was below 4,000 cases.

So, to those of you out there, please do not take actions that may hurt yourself or your loved ones during this difficult time.

We know it’s tough but please do remember that this is not the end. So make sure to never give up.

Because, in the end, there is still someone out there who will lend a helping hand; all you have to do is keep believing.
