Continuing their commitment to do good for the planet, Unilever’s eco-friendly beauty brand, Love Beauty and Planet has launched a sustainability campaign in partnership with Watsons Malaysia. The campaign, which is in conjunction with Earth Month in April aims to educate consumers about the impact of plastic waste and to encourage them to play their part in making the planet a better place.
According to a report analysis by World Wildlife Foundation (WWF), Malaysians are Asia’s largest consumer of plastic. Single-use plastic remains to be one of the biggest culprits that contribute to the problem especially if it is not disposed of properly. The wrongful disposal of single-use plastic has caused our wildlife to be impacted – our beloved animals are harmed from accidental consumption of plastic and polluting our ocean waters and reefs.
“As the leading health and beauty retailer, Watsons Malaysia has pledged to reduce plastic waste as part of our long-term commitment towards sustainability. We are thrilled to be able to partner Love Beauty and Planet, who shares the same values as we do when it comes to our environment. We hope that through this campaign, we can make a difference for the planet by encouraging consumers to adopt an environmentally friendly lifestyle,” shared Caryn Loh, Managing Director, Watsons Malaysia.
Be an eco-warrior
Education is the first step to encouraging more Malaysians to take an active part in loving their planet. However, awareness in reducing waste through recycling is still low among Malaysians. As part of Love Beauty and Planet’s sustainability initiative, the brand has created an interactive mobile game that aims to educate the public about recycling.
The game offers Malaysians a chance to be an eco-warrior virtually, by earning points through a collection of recyclable bottles that appears on screen, while avoiding our marine friends to save them from this plastic waste.
With every successful gameplay, consumers can earn an exclusive voucher that is valid to be used on any Love Beauty and Planet’s products on Watsons’s stores, website, or in-app purchases.

Recycle and be rewarded
A report by Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) Malaysia indicated a low recycling rate of 30% in Malaysia last year. This showcases the need to take action and make difference for the planet. With that, Love Beauty and Planet are collaborating with Watsons to place recycling bins in twenty (20) Watsons retail stores within Klang Valley as their efforts to encourage more consumers to recycle more conveniently. Consumers can visit the participating Watsons stores from 12 April 2021 to 31 May 2021 to drop off any used plastic bottles to be recycled. All the collected plastic bottles will then be sent to a local plastic management company where they will be given a second life as part of Love Beauty and Planet’s commitment to reducing plastic waste.
As a reward for doing their part for the planet, consumers are entitled to a reward voucher from Love Beauty and Planet to be used at Watsons.
