Those who often watch Korean dramas or have already the chance to visit Korea prior to the pandemic should probably know about this famous convenience store. Well good news for all Korean food aficionados, Malaysia will soon have a CU Store.
In South Korea, CU Store is said to have about 15,000 outlets. That’s crazy, no? It’s amusing that we actually watched our favourite Korean drama actors and actresses enjoying these meals on screen but that changes ’cause we can finally try it out for ourselves too.
It is said the first CU outlet will be opening on April 1, 2021 at Centrepoint Bandar Utama area. It’s enough that we are willing to drive all the way there just to experience the McDonald’s drive-thru, but at least now we have another excuse to go there.
We are still unsure about when the other outlets will be opening but for now, let’s just rejoice with this first store opening.
Tteokbokki, dakgangjeong (fried chicken), corn sausage, odeng (fishcake), and other Korean snacks and street food are common at CU and it’s super exciting that we can’t contain ourselves.
Other than these popular Korean street food and snacks, the outlet will also be selling Korean beauty products and daily essentials.
A little background in how this is able to happen. Well, MyNews Holdings Bhd is behind this and plans to bring the popular convenience store brand from South Korea, CU, to the Malaysian market. The convenience store retailer confirmed that its wholly-owned subsidiary, MYCU Retail Sdn Bhd, has reached a 10-year deal with the convenience store brand’s owner, BFC Retail.
Are you excited as we are?
