Growing up, I was used to eating home-cooked meals prepared by both my mother and grandmother. The only difference between the two is that I got to enjoy the best of both worlds, namely Filipino and South Indian cuisine. Coming from a mixed-race culture, I count myself grateful to have had the chance to explore both cuisines from a very young age and stay true to my roots to this day. Sweet and spicy? I’d say I’m both.
As a result, I was delighted when I found out about La Comida by Micah B. I haven’t had very good Filipino food in a long time, and most of the restaurants I’ve been to in the last few years have been a little mediocre for my tastes. However, after reading the reviews, I am intrigued to try Micah’s cooking.
– Stay tuned for the full review, I am going to place my order now! –
It all began right after her husband shared her cooking with his coworkers. They were really impressed and even persuaded her to start making her cooking into a business. Micah launched La Comida, which translates to food in Spanish, on Instagram in September 2020. It’s a perfect fit for her portrayal of simple and authentic Filipino cooking.
To distinguish herself from other online food businesses, she wanted to share something different with Malaysians. And, much to her delight, it received a lot of recognition and rave reviews. Ili Sulaiman, a Malaysian chef, felt her food was “comforting, delicious, and so good to cicah with tea!”
Micah’s bread and pastries are among her specialities. Although I might personally request for her to make me my favourite dish of all time — the Sinigang! Her bestsellers include the Filipino Cheese Streusel Bread and my personal favourite, pandesal. The one she makes is a combination of both yam and cheese which sounds absolutely heavenly.
Her cooking is made from authentic Filipino recipes, which warrants that the Pinoy in me will finally eat some very fine Filipino comfort food real soon.
Besides the cheese bread and pandesal, Micah also makes other desserts such as Mini Cheesecakes, Coffee Banana Pecan Loaf Bread, Salmon Wellington and the ever so traditional Filipino fruitcake, Crema de Fruta.
Micah only takes orders on weekends for now but if you want to check out these delectable Filipino offerings, drop her a DM on Instagram real soon. I know, I will!
