When it comes to skincare, there is no doubt that all we want to do is pamper our skin with only the best products and ingredients. Sometimes going all-natural and chemical-free is the best thing to do to have flawless and glowy skin.
Founder of Bedazzled Lush, Shyamalavathana (fondly known as Shyam) has noticed how some commercialised products can be really harmful despite advertising how good that certain product could be for your skin.
Being a firm believer that true beauty comes from the heart and beauty is much more than a pretty face. I have always wanted to advocate the importance of being natural.
Born and raised in Teluk Intan, Perak, the mind behind this all-natural beauty brand graduated from INTI and is a proud mompreneur who is working towards fulfilling her beautiful dream. A dream where she wanted people to BeDazzled & feel Lush, and that’s how Bedazzled Lush came about.
“Having sensitive skin and tired of finding the perfect skincare made me start making my own skincare products,” Shyam shared.
With the little knowledge she had from her late father’s medical field, Shyam began formulating skincare products using natural ingredients in 2010. It took her at least a solid three years to get the formulas right and create the right products for her brand. Then comes 2013, where she officially established the brand.
The mompreneur pointed out that everything begins with picking and choosing the right ingredients to make the products and that it was also important to have the passion, the patience, the willingness to learn and the ability to design to come up with the perfect product.
“You always have to be aware of any incompatibilities among ingredients, special requirements such as temperature or pH range. One should always be open to ideas and willing to learn from mistakes. And of course, another important factor is to understand the science of skin,” she said.
In order to preserve the quality, her products are freshly made upon orders so it can all be made by batches in the right quantity and measurement. After completion, products are packed and labelled with expiry dates.
Her Golden Goddess Face Soap, Saffron Glow Moisturizer, Golden Saffron Vit E Elixir and Rose & Saffron Toner are actually a few of her bestsellers. When asked if she’s currently producing any new products, she happily shared with us that she’s working on making sunscreen as well as products for the men’s collection.

How did your parents influence you to be the person that you are today?
My parents have influenced my life in many good ways. My father has taught us to be ethical, encouraged us to pursue, to analyze and make a decision as per your (our) thoughts and not others, to be bold and firm with our decisions and words. My mother, on the other hand, taught us about compassion, harmony & unconditional love. So being an entrepreneur, I personally feel all these have moulded me to be who I am now and to stand up for myself.
How do you cope with rejection?
So far I’ve taken rejection as a learning point and a stepping stone to move forward. It has guided me for better improvement. Each rejection is taken to serve the next customer at a better level and improvise overall.
Share with us something that you’re working on improving about yourself and the business. How will that help with your goals?
To acknowledge my strength and weakness which is to work towards personal developments. The foundation of a solid or strong business is its customers. Building trust, confidence and loyalty is the biggest asset to any business. This will ensure business continuity through repeat orders and lastly continuous recommendation over the brand, SO I believe this will support the expansion of the business and my goals.
Do you have any life-defining moments that have shaped you into the person you are today?
Becoming a mother. It has shown me the importance of life and to appreciate it more.
During the MCO, did you still receive orders?
Yes, in fact, the number of orders increased during MCO as many had the time to pamper themselves. Many new customers started to enquire and purchase.
How do you stay true to yourself and what’s your definition of success?
Love and accept yourself and deliberately remove unsupportive and toxic people. That’s how I stay true to myself. My definition of success is to do something you love as a job, being financially independent and having repeat customers and a loyal customer base who believes in your product/brand.
