Check out this Michelin-starred chicken rice dish, only at Petaling Street

We all have at least one favourite chicken rice joint that we really like but that said, it’s no harm to check out new places. Especially when the restaurant is the home of the famous Michelin-starred chicken rice from Singapore.

The mastermind and humble hawker stall owner, Chan Hon Meng was born in a village in Ipoh, with both parents who were farmers. Chef Chan was exposed to cooking at a very early age as he’s usually in charge of the daily preparations for the family meals. As time went by, his love and passion for the culinary world grew.

In 2009, he opened the first outlet of Liao Fan Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle which is located in Singapore’s Chinatown Complex Food Centre.

Having a Michelin-star is quite a big deal, but patrons should know that the award didn’t change the pricing or taste of the dish. The stall may originate from Singapore but the heart and soul of both the chef and dish are from Malaysia. What makes it more exciting is that we don’t have to travel to Singapore to try it because they have two outlets right here in Malaysia (Ipoh and Petaling Street) too.

Located at Kwai Chai Hong in Petaling Street, the must-try dish at Chef Chan’s restaurant is the signature Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken. The dish isn’t like the normal roasted or steamed chicken that our restaurants offer but instead, this one is much better. With a soy sauce-glazed skin, you can choose to enjoy the meal with rice, hor fun or even noodles. When it comes to sides, there are the usual bean sprouts, vegetables and even Thai style tofu. For all you big eaters out there, we’d recommend not to over order as the portion served at Hawker Chan is incredibly big — perfect to share with a few other people.

Besides the chicken, the restaurant also serves char siew, siew yoke and also pork ribs.

In terms of price, we imagined it to actually burn a hole in our pocket as, after all, it is a Michelin-starred dish. But we were proven wrong as Hawker Chan’s meals are very affordable. Starting from only RM8.80 for their signature chicken dish, this is one place you definitely need to check out.

On that note, Hawker Chan is selling their chicken rice for only RM1.99 from now until July 25. The promotion is only valid for the first 100 customers on a daily basis and customers would need to spend a minimum of RM10. If this isn’t a steal, then we don’t know what is.
