WOMEN have often been on top, and in recent years, more so than ever, what with the likes of Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Lady Gaga all echoing in the airwaves of popular music.

And closer to home now, it’s the likes of Najwa, Aisyah Aziz, Dani and Agis Kania who are hitting all the right notes. In fact, they will all be hitting them at the biggest jazz event in the south of Peninsular Malaysia, at Iskandar Puteri Jazz Festival 2018.

Iskandar Puteri Jazz Festival 2018 promises 2 stages of experimental and classical jazz performers to serenade you by the Straits of Johor all evening. Watch and listen to musical improvisation and collaboration at its finest in Iskandar Puteri’s most-visited lifestyle and entertainment centre!

The musical smorgasbord promises two stages of experimental and classical jazz performances. Genre luminary, guitarist Robin Banerjee, who played with the late great Amy Winehouse (appearing on the deluxe version of her Grammy-winning album Back to Black), and has performed at Glastonbury and Montreux Jazz Festival, will be gracing the festival stage, along with guest frontwoman, rising talent Dani, whose voice has been heard at the IP Jazz Festival (Johor), JB International Arts Festival (Johor) and also the Publika Jazz Festival (Kuala Lumpur).

Together, they will mix their love of everything jazz and blues for a sound all its own. Indonesian bassist Barry Likumahuwa will add spice to the musical proceedings with his funky grooves as our very own singing siren NJWA provides the sentient rhythms of cool Soul and R&B.

Those thirsting for a taste of Latin will find Orquesta Yambeque the ideal quencher with the percussion ensemble’s unique and tailor-made Salsa, gleaned from the textbooks of traditional music from the Caribbean Coast of Colombia and the golden sound of the 70s from New York and Puerto Rico. From just across the causeway, Aisyah Aziz will treat the faithful to her brand of tunes and prove why she is a worthy alumnus of Akademi Fantasia 2013. Azmi Hairudin and Friends, The Frankie Sixes, Kayhan Kalhor and Kiya Tabassian, Kirana Kay and the Groove Messenger, Agis Kania, Ee Jeng Trio and Ground Passenger round up the performances for the day.

The Iskandar Puteri Jazz Festival is organized by UEM Sunrise in Partnership with Marina Walk. Admission to the Iskandar Puteri Jazz Festival 2018 is FREE and it’s from 5 pm to 1 am.
