Rhodes Performs His First Show In Over A Year In Malaysia

by Natasha Christopher

RHODES is the stage name of British singer-songwriter, David Rhodes.  Hailing from Hitchin, Hertfordshire he has captivated audiences with his haunting vocals and ethereal electric guitar, since the release of his first single in 2013 and also the Malaysian fans last night for his Asia Tour 2018.

He is inspired by musical artists like Jeff Buckley, Antony and The Johnsons and Neil Young. Listening to blues and old school rock and roll music ever since he was a young kid, he somehow knew how music works in a song.

Even before the release of his first album he was on the road supporting acclaimed artists such as Rufus Wainwright, Sam Smith, Hoizer, London Grammar and more.  Christopher Bailey of Burberry was so impressed he had Rhodes perform live at, not one, but two of his catwalk shows.   Following the release of his debut album he instantly became a torchbearer for the new generation of singer/songwriters from England.

His album, Wishes, which was written fully by Rhodes, is a 12 track album – 18 track for the deluxe version- debuted with the talented singer, Birdy “Let It All Go” has racked up more than 78 million plays on Spotify and over 74 million views on Youtube. “Birdy loved the song. From then on, we spoke and hung out, and basically, within those two days of knowing her, we recorded the music together.”

“Wishes was basically a themed album to be there for the ones you love, some sort of expressing your gratitude for the people around you and also offering hope to many. This album too discusses on a state of mind of an individual and also focuses on spiritual well-being,” said Rhodes in an interview with 2Cents yesterday at the Bee, Publika.

Since the release of his successful debut album, Rhodes has been working on his highly anticipated sophomore album and is taking a break from recording to try out new songs in Asia for the first time. He will also be performing in Singapore, Taipei, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Seoul and lastly in Beijing.

When asked to describe himself in three words which most people don’t know about him, he said he is a painfully shy person, he is Half-French and has a pet rabbit.
