The long award season has finally concluded with a bang in the Oscars last night, and the biggest winners are Guillermo Del Toro’s “Shape Of Water” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”, as they take awards for the Best Picture and Best Director as well as best original score and character design while the latter takes an accolade of acting awards such as Best Actress won by Francis McDormand and Sam Rockwell winning Best Supporting Actor.
Additionally, the Best Actor goes to Gary Oldman in his portrayal of Winston Churchill in The Darkest Hour, while Allison Janney takes home another award for her role as Tonya’s mother in I,Tonya. In a surprising turn of events, Lady Bird and get Out was nominated for Best Original Screenplay, with Jordan Peele’s Get Out winning the award. This would make him the first black winner in this category which is a history defining moment.
Christopher Nolans Dunkirk which was nominated for eight categories won three technical awards for sound mixing, sound editing and film editing. It came to no surprise that Blade Runner came out on top for Best Visuals Effects and Best Cinematography.
