CES 2018 is back this year and every tech giant worth knowing is coming up with brand new devices and concepts that will change the way you look at technology. Google, being the tech giant that they are has just presented a new line of smart displays for branded speakers.
The new smart displays are an integrated form of Google’s Assistant, which will be rolled out with these companies, Altec Lansing, Anker Innovations, Bang & Olufsen, Braven, iHome, JBL, Jensen, LG, Lenovo, Klipsch, Knit Audio, Memorex, RIVA Audio, SōLIS, and Sony.
Google has not explained how these new screens will be implemented with the Assistant, however, it has been noted that these displays will not be running Android-based apps. but rather running on Android Things, a different platform used for IoTs (Internet of things), which displays a web-like view and answers queries using card-like interfaces.
Based on the video above, this new intuitive smart display allows users to display pictures, calendars, provide directions, show recipes, and allows video conferencing via Duo. In comparison to its competitor the Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant has also added in the “actions” feature which can be relatable to the skills that Alexa uses. This would allow you to use the speaker as a navigation tool for the Google search engine.
These new interfaces won’t be seen until later this year, as there are many functions yet to be rolled out. But the reveal of these screens means that Google is ready to put up a heated competition with Amazon’s Echo Show.
