It’s already almost end of the year and this time we are ranking the most streamed Spotify artist of 2017. Before we reveal the star of the show, let’s queue some drum roll……
It’s none other than Mr Perfect himself, Ed Sheeran.
The Grammys may have dissed Ed Sheeran, but Spotify says he is the most streamed artist of the year.
The streaming service announced Tuesday that the English Singer-Songwriter tops its 2017 list with 6.3 billion streams. He also has Spotify’s biggest album of the year with “Divide,” streamed 3.1 billion times, and the top song with “Shape of You,” logging 1.4 billion streams.
Coming in second placing hip-hop star Drake with his “More Life” album came in second on Spotify in 2017 and rapper Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Damn’ was fourth, with R&B singer The Weeknd ‘Starboy, a protege of Drake, placing third. Lastly Post Malone’s ‘Stoney’ round out the top 5.
Although there wasn’t any female artist in the Top 5, Rihanna came in the most streamed female artist on Spotify, despite her lack of major releases in 2017. This is followed by Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez.
Spotify says hip-hop increased by 74 percent in the last year, while Latin music jumped 110 percent.
