It’s a rainy day today but that didn’t stop Kuala Lumpur Biennale 2017 to launch! This is a game changer event in the visual art scene in Malaysia is scheduled to be held and exhibited to the public beginning 1st November 2017 until the 30th March, 2018. Entrance is free too!
The opening ceremony is officiated by YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri bin Abdul Aziz, Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia at the National Art Gallery today. The exhibition, foreseen to stamp its presence in history as a new platform in the progression of the visual arts scene in Malaysia, will see a curational team appointed to lead the Kuala Lumpur Biennale 2017 by its host the National Art Gallery.
Kuala Lumpur Biennale exhibition encompassing its BELAS theme celebrates 114 individuals from across continents. consisting of 103 artists from Malaysia and 11 international artists.
The flow of the exhibition is designed with the Stories of Love segment acting as an entry point that will permit the audience to appreciate the story of love from the pillars of Belas which has been which has been divided into 5 pillars – Love for Animal (belas haiwan), love for Humanity (Belas Insan) love for heritage (belas warisan), love for humanity(belas insan), and love for spirituality (belas kerohanian).
The aim is to provide moments of contemplation to reassess various human actions and behaviours as reflected in the works by invited artists featured in the Petals of Love Segment. It is the Art of Today. Contemporary artists work in a globally influenced, culturally diverse, and the technologically advancing world.
Local prolific artists who have expressed and showcased their art across the era will display their work in this year’s installation and they include, Awang Damit Ahmad, Sharmiza Abu Hassan, Bibi Chew Chon Bee, Ahmad Zakii Anwar, Jeganthan Ramachandran, Lisa Foo, Anniketyni Madian and more.
