When we think Bollywood or Kollywood, we often think exaggerated scenes. However over-the-top they may be, many Malaysians won’t deny their love for Indian blockbusters.
For years, these movies have become the crux of many households, spicing up boring weekends. Everything from the songs (cues Kuch Kuch Hota Hai clip) and drama, to logic-defying fighting moments, we pretty much know how an average Bollywood movie goes down.
Though Kollywood, in comparison to Bollywood seems to take on a more comical approach to everything on-screen, we came across one that seems pretty serious. Interstellar-The Martian-Gravity serious. It’s called Tik Tik Tik, first-of-its-kind Tamil space thriller written and directed by Shakti Soundar Rajan.
Staying true to the genre of the film, Shakti says that there are no romance, duet or dance sequences. “Comedy elements will be there, but it will progress along with the story.” A Tamil movie with no dance sequences? Coolio…
And here’s the juicy part – it’s starring Singaporean actor Aaron Aziz from your favourite local shows – Evolusi KL Drift, KL Gangster and Ombak Rindu (among others). The film is said to be released later this year and began production in October 2016 at EVP Film City in Chennai.
“I was scared at first. I didn’t understand what was going on. I can’t take photos on set. The director was shouting. So, it did feel a bit chaotic. But once I got the hang of it, everything just went smoothly,” Aaron said.
Despite many unforgettable and first-time moments he experienced on set, one major setback was a neck injury he sustained back in 2003, while shooting Suamiku Encik Perfect 10. Despite suffering immense pain, he refused to use a stuntmen and insisted on giving everyone his best shot.
“…I don’t want to work in a foreign land, only to show them I can’t do a lot of things. Then, I might as well go home,” he told interviewers.
How many of you are looking forward for this one?
