“Now everyone can fly! A drone of course,” Kevin On, DJI’s Director of Communication made everyone laugh at the launch of DJI Spark in Tropicana Golf Clubhouse this week.

You can whip the mini-drone out whenever inspiration strikes and it’s ready for launch within seconds! Weighing at only 300g (less than a can of soda!) and easily fits in almost any bag (even your pocket!), Spark is designed to be a lifestyle accessory you can take anywhere.

Available in five colour variants – Alpine White, Sy Blue, Meadow Green, Lava Red, and Sunrise Yellow – the drone acts as a hobby device and a personalised accessory for the fashion conscious.

Spark can be operated by a remote controller or a mobile device, but this compact, user-friendly drone is also the first drone that allows control by hand movements alone via its Gesture mode.

Other features include TapFly – tap on a location on your mobile screen and watch it fly to the exact spot, and ActiveTrack – the drone automatically recognises and tracks an object you choose, keeping it at the centre of the frame. Users can also switch to Sports mode, which unleashes Spark’s speed potential up to 31 mph.

Creating professional videos is made easy with the four built-in Quickshot modes. Rocket sends Spark straight up in the air with the camera pointed down, Dronie flies up and away from your subject, Circle rotates around the subject, and Helix spirals away from a subject as it flies upward. Each mode has the drone automatically create a 10-second video ready for sharing on social media.

Boasting its ability to capture photos up to 12 megapixels and stabilised HD 1080p videos, Spark’s 2-axis mechanical gimbal and Ultrasmooth technology also dramatically reduce shake and rolling shutter effect to get that perfect cinematic shot.

Like all the other recent DJI drones, Spark can return to its home point automatically with a press of the Return to Home button. It will also automatically return if the battery gets too low or connection is lost while using the remote controller.
