5 Things We Love About the Samsung Galaxy S8

by Nashata K.

Yes – the moment we’ve all been waiting for is drawing closer. Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be released on April 21st! The pressure is definitely on for the Korean electronics giant to deliver a flagship phone that does not only come packed with more attractive specs compared to its older siblings, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, but how it fares in comparison with the iPhone 7 would be what most would be interested to know about.

Here are a few things that we like so far about the latest Samsung Galaxy S8:

Display

Samsung has been pushing the limits, and setting some very serious bars with their latest flagship models. If anything, Samsung is built around displays and the new Galaxy S8 proves this. The sides of both the S8 and S8+ are curved like the S7 edge, which is the default way that Samsung models are being made now – they are symmetrical and appear to be less sharp and more curvy around the edges, which we imagine will be a lot more comfortable to grip. We think the most brag-worthy thing about the gorgeous Infinity display is how it gives a very seamless experience. The dropping of the bezels altogether is a big jump for Samsung who is currently winning the war with the all-screen feature. The home button is now virtual or on-screen rather than physical, allowing you to press it no matter what app you’re currently on to take you home.

Battery performance

battThe specter of the Note 7’s exploring battery hovers over the S8. Although we cannot tell for sure how the S8 will fare in this respect until the final units are incident-free, we do know (and like) how Samsung had established an 8-point battery test that was used on both the S8 and S8+ and from what we’ve heard, Samsung will be doing this with all their flagship models moving forward.

Face recognition

Yes – there is now a face recognition security feature which puts fingerprint recognition to shame! Though the Samsung Galaxy S8 still comes with the fingerprint feature (now placed at the back, next to the camera) and iris recognition, sensors inside the smartphone quickly detects your face and unlocks the smartphone extremely quickly with this newly installed feature.

Bixby

Forget about Google Assistant, Samsung’s new Android flagships, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ sport their own voice assistant called Bixby. This AI is designed to allow you to carry out a full range of interactions and all that using touch. Bixby is said to be triggered just by holding down the side button. How neat!

Camera

The S8 is a sizeable improvement over the S7 in almost every area. The current S8 still holds much of its camera features as the S7 but the new multi-frame image processor that comes with the new flagship model can take up to 3 shots every single time you snap, reducing blur and leaving you with a sharper image. The other improvement is the front-facing camera which now carries as many as 8 megapixels with face-detection autofocus, which is a great feature for those who like indulging in selfies!

Though we’re yet to try the latest Samsung Galaxy S8 on for size, we’re excited for the launch. Stay tuned for an all-original 2cents review on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+!
