Slim, portable and relatively powerful, the Acer Spin 5 is a great 2-in-1.
Today, a laptop has to more than just a laptop to appeal to consumers. As such, system manufacturers like Acer have come up with laptops that can be used in more ways than one. Take the Spin 5 for example, a laptop that can be used just like a tablet.
Design and Usage
If you’re wondering why the Spin 5 looks familiar, that’s probably because it looks eerily like one of the products from its competition. Regardless, the form factor and overall design is excellent. There are three USB ports on this laptop: 1 USB 3.0, and 2 USB 2.0 ports. They’re all found on the left of this device, alongside a HDMI port.
Meanwhile, on the right, you’ll find the volume rocker, power button, Kensington lock slot, and a microSD card slot. Do note that there is no support for SD cards, so those who love photography will likely have to consider something else.
Performance
The model that we received runs on a 6th generation Intel Core i3-6100U, has 4GB of DDR4 RAM and 128GB of solid state storage. This combination doesn’t make this variant incredibly powerful, but it’s definitely sufficient for work and a little bit of entertainment. We ran PCMark 8 to put a number on the performance, and that number is 3,275. Again, this score isn’t high, but it’s sufficient for tasks like word processing and slideshow preparation.
When it comes to entertainment, the Full HD display makes it easy to enjoy multimedia content. Movies are crisp and clear, and the speakers are surprisingly loud.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for a laptop that has a touchscreen, and is capable of some light gaming, the Acer Spin 5 is a rather desirable option and definitely makes it to 2cents’ Top Pick Award. Retailing from RM2399 onwards, the following are some specifications of the Spin 5:
