Six years.

Do you model part time or full time?

I was a full time model and now I’m part time modelling.

What inspired you to become a model?

I’ve always loved fashion and being a model, I get to learn a lot more about this industry.

Describe a normal day in your life as a model.

I work as an operation manager in an F&B outlet now, so I would be working as well when I don’t have modelling jobs on hand. Other than that, I like to practice yoga and go to the gym.

What do you enjoy about modelling?

I get to meet a lot of people and tackle challenges that improve me as a person.

What is a common misconception about modelling?

Everybody thinks that models don’t eat much but I actually eat a lot, but of course we need to workout to maintain our body too![/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]What is a challenge in modelling?

When you’re assigned for certain roles, you’ll have to bring out the character and try your best to meet client’s requirement.

How do you wish to influence people as a model?

I’m always learning, by keeping an open mind and confidence in myself.

In your opinion, what makes a model special and unique from the others?

I think being a model always get the attention from others.

What is beauty and fitness regime like?

I always make sure to clean my face properly because as a model, we always have make up on. I love yoga and HITT training.

As a model, what do you spend your money on most?

The things I would be spending the most are fitness classes and skincare.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]How can a model stay relevant to modern times that are always changing or flooded with new faces every year?

Of course there will always be new faces to be discovered, but I guess the most important thing is to be humble and keep learning constantly.

What is your advice for these young models to keep themselves safe?

Always get as much information before you accept a job. Sometimes you can even prepare an agreement letter if necessary. Understand your value and be alert all the time.

What was your most memorable modelling assignment?

Working with international star Wang Lee Hom.

Who is your favourite model and why?

My favourite model is Liu Wen. She is so versatile that she can carry a lot of different styles.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Section 2″ tab_id=”1484120094423-eca7cb09-86e4″][vc_single_image image=”45213″ img_size=”large”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]How long have you been modelling?

10 years and counting.

Do you model part time or full time?

I started while I was still in university and since then I have always modelled on a part time basis as I treat it more like a hobby and passion.

What was your first modelling job like?

It was a TV commercial and it was a really tiring shoot! It was my first time shooting and I was on set for more than 24 hours. It gave me the impression that modelling isn’t as easy as I thought it would be. There will be time when there will be unforeseen circumstances, technical issues and delays. For me I had to experience it during the first shoot!

Describe a normal day in your life as a model.

I plan on the best time to go to the casting, allocating time for travelling, running errands, meeting clients, attending events and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Usually, it’s best to make an appointment by checking the earliest time you can come in for a casting. Also, I believe modelling is about living a healthy lifestyle which means eat healthily, drink lots of water, workout regularly and sleep enough. Always be prepared in a shoot with some healthy snacks, water and utilise your waiting time reading on subjects to improve yourself, reply work emails and perhaps plan for something else. It’s always about discipline and commitment.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]How do you wish to influence people as a model?

I am thankful I was able to do that from my hobby and passion which has gained external recognition by being appointed as the brand ambassadors of my favourite brands – Under Armour and Optimum Nutrition. I wish to inspire everyone out there to become the best version of themselves.

What do you enjoy about modelling?

Modelling has brought me to travel to many places and gives me the opportunity to interact with many interesting and inspiring people. I get to see different cultures and also learn from these amazing people from all walks of life.

What is a common misconception about modelling?

People usually get an impression that modelling is an easy task because models just need to look good in front of the camera and pose. But there is much more to that. It is about being prepared, mentally strong and disciplined. As an example, you face criticism, rejections, change in job scope or even last minute cancellations from clients. This can happen and it can affect you.

In your opinion, what makes a model special and unique from the others?

Everyone is unique. I think it is about embracing your strength and being comfortable with being yourself.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]What is your beauty regime like? How about fitness?

I believe in natural beauty and taking care after yourself. To me it means living a healthy lifestyle which includes mixing with positive people, loving your body by nourishing it with proper food, enough water and exercising. Fitness should be part of our lifestyle and we should enjoy doing it rather than seeing it as a chore.

How can a model stay relevant to modern times that are always changing or flooded with new faces every year?

Know your strength and weakness. Embrace your strength. Modelling should also be enjoyable and fun so the moment you feel that you need to compete and to start to prove you are better than it is an indication that it’s time to start thinking of doing something else.

Whats you have an ultimate goal as a model?

Being able to model and branch out to become brand ambassadors of my favourite brand and also slowly venturing into a fitness icon and influencer where I am able to inspire many out there.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Section” tab_id=”1484121041032-31ac4687-1d95″][vc_single_image image=”45217″ img_size=”large”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]How long have you been modelling?

Since 2003 while I was studying at INTI Penang College.

What inspired you to become a model?

I was always impressed with designer collections, this is one of a reason I wanted to be a model, to be paid to put them on!

What was your first modelling job like?

It was a bridal show at Gurney Mall, Penang. Both my legs were shaking all the way from start to end of the show. It was also the first time I had to change dresses so quick in front of many people back stage!

Describe a normal day in your life as a model.

When I have free time, I meet my personal trainer and book a facial treatment, otherwise I will be home working on something else. I’m always finding things to do to keep myself active.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]What is a common misconception about modelling?

People always think modelling is a brainless job and talent is not needed, and that models are arrogant. The fact is, models with talent and humility are those who last in the industry.

What is a challenge in modelling?

To give clients results up to their expectation, especially shooting which involves many people around you while you work. Self-preparation before shoots are a must.

What is beauty and fitness philosophy?

As a model, never fit a dress to the body but train the body to fit the dress so fitness is very helpful for me. Also, skincare is very important: I do body scrubs once a week, facial masks twice a week, facial lifting treatments at Rachel Chew Clinic twice a month. At this age, I’m very disciplined in my beauty regime.

What is your advice for these young models to keep themselves safe?

Professional model managers and photographers will have their official websites. From there you can view the professional models who have worked with them. I also asked other experienced models about them. The best way to protect yourself is to bring a guy friend to auditions.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]What was your most memorable modelling assignment?

Underwater Model at Cebu Island for FashionIOne TV in Philippine. We are selected to fly to Cebu Island and learned how to dive, write a paper test and open water test within 3 days before the actual shoot. It was the most challenging assignment of my life.

How did you get to the current position as a model, from your early days as a fresh model?

There was a mother agency, Stage Events in Penang, that spotted me while I was shopping at Gurney Mall, I learned basic modelling for fashion show from Sammi and when I graduated, I flew back to Thailand and other countries in Asia for different learning experiences.

Charisma and a smart appearance. How we carry ourselves in public is different.

I probably spend most time at fitness than on beauty but definitely I won’t skip mask once a week & eyes gel before bedtime daily.

As a model, what do you spend your money on most?

Fitness supplements.

What do your friends and family think of your modelling career?

They think my career is so special and very rare as I get to meet people while on the job.

How can a model stay relevant to modern times that are always changing or flooded with new faces every year? [/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]Because I’m more to commercial and filming, new faces don’t really effect my career. Every age has its own market but good acting skills, experiences & professionalism counts if you wish to stay on long.

What is your advice for these young models to keep themselves safe?

Yes I have met many new models & talents, I have advised new models and talents that casting is free as some informed me that agents set up castings to make money. Be careful when agents set up a meeting at a hotel or locations that are unsafe. It’s better to bring people along.

What was your most memorable modelling assignment?

Genting Commercial shoot because the production team and client took care of us very well during our stay.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Section” tab_id=”1484121470471-760299e3-6a8c”][vc_single_image image=”45215″ img_size=”large”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]How long have you been modelling?

I model part time now so a normal day will be my working life at the office. If I’m a full time model, I think my normal lifestyle will be eat, sleep and gym, on repeat.

What is a common misconception about modelling?

That a model needs to be tall! Yes, you need to be tall but it all depends on the designer and the type of outfit they design. As long as you fit the height and physical requirement and there are always heels to wear during the show.

How do you wish to influence people as a model?

Through a healthy lifestyle. For me, keeping myself healthy is a vital importance as a model. Models might be a role model for any teen out there, so keeping our healthy and happy lifestyle is important.

As a model, what do you spend your money on most?

I always spend my money on make up, wardrobe and food.

What do your friends and family think of your modelling career?

Fortunately, I have supportive friends. My mum did not agree to my modelling career when I told her I wanted to sign a modelling contract but she is now very supportive!

How can a model stay relevant to modern times that are always changing or flooded with new faces every year? [/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]I think will be the working attitude. If a model has a right working attitude, people will always remember her/him.

What is your advice for these young models to keep themselves safe?

Seek opinions from the senior models, friends or family. Think wisely before you accept job offers from anyone.

Does modelling pay well?

Honestly speaking, not really in Malaysia. Roughly I earn about RM300 – RM800 per job, it depends.

How did you get to the current position as a model, from your early days as a fresh model?

I practiced hard for my catwalk when I was a fresh model. I’m not tall enough so I try my best to improve my catwalk to impress others.

Who is your favourite model and why?

Cara Delevingne. She has a very strong personality and I love the way she carries herself. She has a colourful socialite upbringing and she’s killing the runway game![/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Section” tab_id=”1484121715866-7973aabc-7dfa”][vc_single_image image=”45212″ img_size=”large”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]How long have you been modelling?

It’s been 16 years.

How did you become a model?

When I was 18 years old, I travelled from my hometown, Johor to Kuala Lumput to study. I was working as a part time promoter at KLCC when a modelling agency invited me to do a catwalk show for the launch opening of a branded outlet in KLCC. Since then, I was lucky and became part time model. I never though the show would make my life change.

What was your first modelling job like?

For a catwalk, it’s KLCC grand opening. For TVC, is a shampoo advertisement for local TV. I was an extra and nobody even noticed me until a production director asked me to play the main role on the second day. The pay is low but I didn’t care, it’s about opportunity. The most memorable shoot was a coffee commercial that took place on a beach. It was a hot day, the wind was strong and I had to drink hot coffee with a savouring expression, but my tongue was burned by the coffee. The hair of the female model beside me was flying all over her face; we took six hours for a 10 sec ad.

Describe a normal day in your life as a model.

On normal days, I work as officer in a shopping mall. Nobody notices me unless they have seen my advertisement from other country. Sometime my friends will snap my ad campaign from a bus, billboard, or even a wrapping paper. After work I hit the gym nearby my office. Sometime, I do attend some events and hang out with my friends.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]What do you enjoy about modelling?

Actually, I enjoy every event and shoot that comes my way. I appreciate everyone who works with me to achieve whatever we dealing with. The end of the show sees us satisfied and happy.

What is a common misconception about modelling?

Tall, skinny, six packs, great skin, popular and a lot of fans. If you refer to some advertisement, talents look normal. It’s all about how confident you are and how you present in front of the camera and public.

What is a challenge in modelling?

The trend of the market needs. A lot of ‘new models’ are young and aggressive and try to become a model. Modelling won’t last forever but I do believe we change accordingly and we will get what is suitable for us.

In your opinion, what makes a model special and unique from the others?

Confident, talented, camera-friendly. You have to know why client choose you instead of other models. Maybe it’s your smile? Maybe it’s your skin? Maybe it’s your outlook or the way you walk?

What is your beauty regime like?

I think beauty is from within. You are who you are, no matter what. Just be yourself and love yourself. I hit the gym and play badminton, 3 days for each activity.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]What do your friends and family think of your modelling career?

My father calls me each time I show up on TV. And my friends will snap the advertisement and tag me in Facebook.

How can a model stay relevant to modern times that are always changing or flooded with new faces every year?

You know you can’t change the trend. All you need to do is upgrade yourself. Makes more friends instead makes enemy. It’s always new comer for a replacement. So, just be yourself.

What is your advice for young models to keep themselves safe?

Go online, do some market research and you will know who are the real model managers and who are not! Please do not meet or go to the office alone, get the manager tag along with friends or family. The model manager is more than welcome if you ask for it.

Who is a model you wish you could work with one day, and why?

It will be an honour to work with Taiwanese actor Eddie Pang. He is just amazing, from a model turn to be a famous celebrity.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_pageable][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Back to Part 1″ color=”pink” size=”lg” link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.2cents.my%2F2017%2F01%2F11%2Fmodel-citizens-part-1%2F||”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
