Contact Lens Practice Guidelines aimed at promoting best eye care health practices and improving consumer experience.

Kuala Lumpur, 31 October 2016 – ACUVUE®, in collaboration with the Association of Malaysian Optometrists (AMO), have developed a Contact Lens Practice Guidelines for eye care professionals who are certified by the Malaysian Optical Council (MOC). The Guidelines will assist eye care professionals in making a detailed evaluation and diagnosis before providing prescriptions for contact lens users.

The joint effort support the requirements outlined by the MOC, which requires consumers to have an eye examination and consultation with a qualified eye care professional before contact lenses are prescribed.

“We’re very proud to collaborate with the AMO in creating the Guidelines as this will inform and educate consumers to have better eye health practices,” said Lawrence Kwan, Director of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Malaysia.

Officially presented to the Ministry of Health Malaysia at the opening ceremony of the National Eye Health Awareness Campaign (NEHA) 2016 on 22 October, the Guidelines cover four crucial steps in the usage of contact lens, which are:

  • Contact Lens Fitting Procedure
  • Contact Lens Dispensing Procedure
  • Contact Lens After Care Check-Up
  • Contact Lens Replenishing Procedure

The Guidelines will be available to the public by end of 2016.

Contact lenses are medical devices and we hope to encourage Malaysians to consult qualified eye care professionals for a thorough consultation so they can receive the most appropriate prescription based on their specific eye care needs,” explained Kwan.

It’s also important for consumers to ensure that the contact lens they choose has international standards of UV protection to keep their eyes safe from harmful UV rays which can lead to conditions like cataract and macular degeneration. With regular eye checks and proper consultation on good eye care practices, consumers can keep their eyes healthy,” he added.
