Kuala Lumpur, 30 August 2016Red Bull Product of Europe (Red Bull) today announced the first-ever #EhWauBulan Art Showcase candidate to embark on a bespoke artist programme aimed to nurture the showcase’s stand-out artist’s talent. Latif Maulan, whose paintings make up the “The Principle” series depicting realistic portraits awash in running water, stood out amongst the works of 44 artists selected for Red Bull’s inaugural art showcase.

From the get-go we can see his unwavering commitment to his craft. Without a doubt, with guidance, direction and resources, he will be an undeniable force to be reckoned with in the near future.”

As #EhWauBulan’s stand-out artist, the panel will develop and work closely with Latif to determine an artist programme and resources to give Latif the wings necessary to develop his artistic merit.

Of the 332 submissions, 59 artworks were selected for the showcase held in honour of the nation’s 59th year of independence. The 44 artists come from all walks of life — from students, practicing contemporary and street artists to retired professionals with a penchant for art — contributed to the collection of paintings and three sculptures.

The showcase at White Box @ Map KL, Publika is open to the public from 31 August until 7 September. It follows on the heels of Red Bull’s first ever limited edition Malaysian can launched in March. Designed by Fritilldea, he represented his artistic journey and appreciation for the country’s achievements through the intricacies of the traditional wau bulan.

Held in partnership and with the support of The National Visual Arts Gallery, Red Bull’s #EhWauBulan’s art outreach set out to cultivate Malaysia’s art scene and to empower local artists with wings to document their journey through art.
