Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania
The latest Marvel instalment follows the return of superhero partners Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne as Ant Man and the Wasp. This time, the duo along with their family find themselves in the quantum realm, interacting with strange new creatures and exploring discoveries they never thought were possible.
Makoto Shinkai’s newest work delves deep into whimsical fantasy, with apocalyptic elements: it follows 17 year-old Suzume who’s life in quiet southwestern Japan is upturned when a young traveller pays her a visit, looking for a door. Following him, she unwittingly gets embroiled in a rich, high-stakes adventure as ‘Doors of Disaster’ keep popping up in the city, kickstarting a series of unfortunate disasters. Suzume, along with the young traveller must now work to close the doors to save the nation from catastrophe.
Everything Everywhere All At Once
If you haven’t had the chance to catch Everything Everywhere All At Once when it first premiered, this is your chance. Starring Malaysia’s icon Michelle Yeoh, the sci-fi film is filled with action, drama and heartfelt comedy as a tired, overworked Chinese American immigrant is flung deep into the multiverse where she must navigate alternate realities and her complicated family relationship.
This Cantonese thriller revolves around the work of cyber security engineer Ka-Chun, who must work to prevent a large-scale cyber attack. However, unbeknownst to him, the perpetrator was his own superior. As the two clash ideologies, Ka-Chun develops an alternative virus and thus leads to his superior threatening his family. Ka-Chun now must navigate between having to rescue his family and the entire city.
When a young man’s everyday life gets disrupted by strange events, he turns to hypnosis to try and get it back on track. However, upon his entanglement with a mysterious woman in his hypnotic dreams, he finds her in real life. When searching for answers, he gets entwined between the past and present. This film explores the fragility of reality, and raises questions about human existence in a visual masterpiece.
