Today Spotify, the world’s most popular global audio streaming subscription service, is officially revealing “Wrapped.” This annual end of year campaign announces the leading artists, albums, songs, playlists, and podcasts that defined how 248 million people around the world listened to and discovered music and podcasts in 2019.
Spotify can reveal that BTS is Malaysia’s most streamed artist in 2019. In this year alone, the K- Pop group has amassed over 3 billion streams from fans around the globe and their hit track “Boy With Luv”, featuring Halsey is the Most Streamed K-pop Track globally in 2019.
K-Pop takes the lead with BTS and BLACKPINK as the Most Streamed Groups in Malaysia this year, but mainstream pop continues to thrive. Malaysian listeners can’t seem to get enough of Ariana Grande, Malaysia’s second Most Streamed Artist. Her album thank u, next is the third Most Streamed Album both globally and locally, and her song “7 rings” is Malaysia’s fifth Most Streamed Track. Also among Malaysia’s Most Streamed Artists are Khalid, Ed Sheeran, and Post Malone. Meanwhile, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s hit “Señorita” generated over 1 billion streams on Spotify this year, making it the Most Streamed Track globally and in Malaysia too.

In Malaysia’s local music scene, K-Clique has risen to the top as Malaysia’s Most Streamed Local Artist of the year. The up-and-coming rap group successfully secured the top spot, surpassing local powerhouses Faizal Tahir and Dato Siti Nurhaliza. The fourth and fifth Most Streamed Local Artists are SonaOne and Insomniacks, a budding pop rock band. It has been a big year for young talent in Malaysia!
A DECADE WRAPPED
As this year also marks the close of the decade (2020, we are coming for you!), for the first time in Spotify’s history, “Wrapped” also features “A Decade Wrapped;” taking a look back at the decade and examining the music, culture and streaming through the eyes of the fans, artists and creators that made it all possible, and in a way only Spotify can. With more than 28 billion streams to his name, DRAKE is our Most Streamed Artist of the decade. Rounding out the five most streamed artists this decade were Ed Sheeran (whose “Shape of You” is also the most streamed track of the decade with more than 2.3 billion streams); Post Malone; Ariana Grande and Eminem.
